I\u2019m constantly drawing. The drawings are indeed much closer to me.\u2019 The multimedia artistic work of Monica Bonvicini (*1965 in Venice) is socially charged; in addition to sculpture and installation, it also includes videos, performance, photography and drawing. The artist continuously questions social conditions \u2013 power structures, gender roles \u2013 and translates them into striking works in various media.<\/p>\n<p>The Kunst Museum Winterthur is hosting the artist&#8217;s first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland. It focuses on a central aspect of her work: drawing. Since the mid-1980s, Bonvicini has produced an extensive oeuvre of drawings: sketches, plans and concepts for sculptural works as well as autonomous large-format drawings such as the impressive series Hurricanes and Other Catastrophies. At the Kunst Museum Winterthur, these drawings will be presented in dialogue with existing sculptural works and new concrete sculptures.<\/p>\n<p>Monica Bonvicini studied in Los Angeles and Berlin, where she has lived and worked for many years. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions since the 1990s, including the Biennales of S\u00e3o Paulo, Istanbul, Berlin and Venice, where she received the Golden Lion in 1999.
