The installations of the artist Jan Vorisek are multifunctional resonance spaces: the use of sculptural, architectural and acoustic means plays manipulatively with the perception and mood of the audience. His material arrangements temporarily alter the architectural conditions of the exhibition spaces. The temporary structures are sometimes even periodically rearranged. They direct the audience’s perception to processes and cycles. Vorisek also employs immaterial means such as light and sound. For his sound performances, which are an integral part of the exhibitions, he uses materials from the installations as sound sources. The work with standard industrial goods and the emphasis on the relationship between audience, work and exhibition space refer to the art of the 1960s. Vorisek transfers their strategies into a contemporary form through his performances, the contemporary choice of materials and the connection with new media and electronic music.\u00a0
\nThe jury of the Manor Art Prize of the Canton of Zurich – artist Klodin Erb, art mediators Fredi Fischli and Deborah Keller, and representatives of the donor company Pierre-Andr\u00e9 Maus and Chantal Prod’Hom – unanimously awarded Jan Vorisek the prize for 2023. Previous winners of the Manor Art Prize of the Canton of Zurich have included: Britta Huttenlocher, Mario Sala, Andro Wekua, Fabian Marti, Alexandra Navratil, El Frauenfelder, Brigham Baker and Mathis Altmann.\u00a0
\nJan Vorisek, born in Basel in 1987, lives and works in Zurich. In 2018, he completed his master’s degree in fine arts at the ZHdK in Zurich. His work has been featured in various exhibitions in Switzerland and abroad in recent years. The Zurich Manor Art Prize includes a solo exhibition at the Kunst Museum Winterthur and a publication to accompany the exhibition.\u00a0<\/p>\n
