Until recently, it was attributed to a painter from Rembrandt\u2019s circle; his colleague and friend Jan Lievens was conjectured to be the creator. However, the extensive Rembrandt Research Project has acknowledged the small Winterthur work to be an original from the master\u2019s own hand. This important aspect is the incentive for a new appraisal of the painting and its presentation in a small exhibition.
